Period:
French, 18th century
Technique and carrier:
Oil on canvas. The canvas is glued to hardboard with the original stretcher behind it.
Inscriptions on the back:
On the back of the stretcher with black paint / ink / chalk: No 336, in blue: 2817 and No 565
Condition before restoration / reason for restoration:
The condition of this painting is stable. The adhesion of paint and carrier is good, as is the adhesion of painting with support carrier. The problem was of a cosmetic nature: surface dirt, yellowed varnish, after dark oil paint touch-ups. UV exposure studies showed that the previous restorer had retained remnants of older varnish when cleaning.
